New MS Teams Update Process
Hi I-Stajcic,
the ability for all users to update Microsoft Teams without administrative rights is a feature of the MSIX packaging format used by Teams. MSIX allows applications to update themselves without requiring administrator permissions. This is achieved through an App Installer repository that stores configurations for automatic updates and repairs.
When an MSIX application like Teams is installed, it creates an entry in this repository containing update settings. These settings can be configured via the Windows Settings app, an App Installer file, PowerShell, or a Configuration Service Provider. Updates are performed within the same package family, and the new package metadata must match the previously installed one.
