Proximity join doesn't work from Teams Desktop app
- Feb 15, 2021
Pavel Yurevich Just received the latest teams client update today, problem solved! Thanks alot Pavel!
Desktop App Update: Microsoft Teams Version 1.4.00.2879 (64-bit). It was last updated on 2/15/21.
Hi Andreas-N and @Pavel Yurevich
On the mobile devices I do not have any problems also, it seems to work as it should.
It looks that the first picture is after a while when you clicked to join, using the old experience.
This is how it looks at the first time.
When I wait a small amount of time the beacon of the room is picked up. And shown as a option.
When using the new pre-join this is what happens here.
The desktop client was first not able to find the room via its beacon, but after using the mobile (with the same account) it also showed up on the desktop App.
And indeed only when you click on search the room shows up.
Also when using the old pre-join and you click on search you get the different Room lists that are present in the Tenant. The Search for a room in the new pre-join gives different option to users where you expect to same options.
Freddy Mulder thanks for the update! This is a printscreen i took at Friday, Jan 15th 2021 when the proximity join feature worked correctly with the new meeting join experience:
The client detected the room and automatically switched to the suggested room audio option.
It stopped working a few days after this date, around Tuesday, Jan 19th 2021
- JarodssMar 30, 2021Copper ContributorI would be happy with just the ability to search for a room in the meet now box
- JarradW_RCTMar 30, 2021Copper ContributorWe're using Teams Desktop Client for Windows: Teams Version 1.4.00.7174 (64-bit).
And we still have the bug, iPhone iOS 14.5 Beta 5 works fine
This needs to be resolved ASAP as we use the Proximity feature in Teams.
Tested below to not be working for us

Jarodss and everyone, sadly I don't have visibility into this particular facet of proximity join. My teammate, Greg Baribault, would be the right person to provide context here. His team is working on restoring this functionality to the Desktop client.
- JarodssMar 30, 2021Copper ContributorAny update on this Pavel Yurevich , I have several customers as well as my entire office who are complaining how they cannot use their Teams Room System because they can no longer see the Teams Room Location listed?!?!??
- Per_AmbMar 29, 2021Copper ContributorI can confirm that this is also a problem for us in the last versions of Teams client.
As there are few support personal on-site due to restrictions of personal in office spaces this is affecting the meeting quailty. Users that is unsure how to handle the Teams room equipment gets even more scared to use them when their ordinary settings stops working. - JarradW_RCTMar 24, 2021Copper Contributor

I have also discovered this does not work anymore. 64bit Teams desktop, version 1.4.00.4167. Working normally from iOS mobile client.
- Pavel YurevichMar 19, 2021Former EmployeeLet's give Desktop Team a chance to investigate and then we can go from there. Stay tuned.
- RayGentryMar 19, 2021Brass ContributorI think it's a bigger larger issue. Because the Beaconing is just an assist feature to narrow down that search and automate the room joining, correct? So beaconing can't really do anything if the Pre-join can't see any rooms?
Can you tag me in the new thread that gets made for that and attach me to any info on that ticket/issue with the desktop team? Our building will be going to full capacity in two weeks and I'd love to help get this sorted out. In addition to that, this had been how we'd recommended people start meetings created by external parties while we're sorting out our link protection system on the network.
Thanks. - Freddy MulderMar 19, 2021Copper ContributorHi Pavel, it appear that the only different is that the search is also not working on version 1.4.00.4167

Hey folks, I escalated this issue to our desktop team. I tested this on our pre-release build and it is working as expected. Hopefully, this is a temporary issue.
Search aspect is a different issue all together. We probably need a different thread for that and escalate it separately. Greg Baribault as an FYI.
- christh0masMar 18, 2021Copper ContributorIt's always good to find a thread with a bunch of people experiencing your exact issue. Misery loves company, right? He he.
I personally have never used this feature but I have heard from several of our users that they aren't any longer able to locate any rooms when they attempt to look for one to use for audio on the meeting pre-join screen. The dropdown just reports "Unable to find any rooms". As mentioned above, this feature does work on the iPhone Teams app.
I'm using Crestron B-140s, if that matters. Anyone have any luck with this yet?
Thanks. - RayGentryMar 18, 2021Brass Contributor
Wayno In your pre-join screen, are you able to even search for a room? That's the big functionality we lost. I don't mind if they have to accept the call on the Mercury Mini at the desk, but not being able to add the room as you're starting the meeting is what's really killing us.
- WaynoMar 18, 2021Brass ContributorAs of March 17, 2021 - the problem still exists. In our organisation of 200+ Teams Room System in deployment we are still getting an increasing number of staff saying that promixity-join is no longer working since they last updated the Teams desktop app. As reported by others in this thread, connectivity from Teams app on smartphone is still working. The problem seems to be specific to the Teams app in Windows 10
- RayGentryMar 17, 2021Brass ContributorThis issue just started popping up for me as well. No rooms show up in the pre-join menu at all. Everything on the devices and desktop app are up to date.

This just started happening to me with Crestron MTR with my Surface Laptop 3 and Windows 10, yesterday, March 16th. I am on Teams 1.4.00.4167 (64-bit) and on Windows 10 Version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.867). I also tested it with a Surface Book same versions, same results.
Teams on my iPhone works correctly. I did not have the experience before yesterday, though the last time I was in the office before yesterday was March 2nd (and it worked fine then - I use it all the time). - Freddy MulderFeb 16, 2021Copper Contributor
Andreas-N @Pavel Yurevich
The Collaboration bar in Proximity is directly shown in the Room Audio (suggested).
This indicate that the problem should be solved now. - Andreas-NFeb 15, 2021Copper Contributor

Pavel Yurevich Its good to hear that is is identified and that the issue is addressed.

Jared_Langendorfer Andreas-N, quick update here. There is no need for collaboration bar or MTR to update the apps, this is purely a desktop app issue. Based on our testing and conversations with the desktop team, the issue has been identified and deployed into the internal rings (I tested it and it works). I am trying to get more concrete ETA when it will hit production.

Pavel Yurevich I think I'm having the same issue with a Logitech Tap MTR. Proximity Join works on mobile app(iPhone) but not on my laptop(Surface Book 2). If I look for the room, I see the indicator that its finding it but no prompt to join. Teams Version is 1.4.00.2781 64bit

Pavel Yurevich Thanks for the update, good to hear than you can reproduce the error (at least on a few devices). The response from the o365 case support: "this problem will be fixed in the next desktop and collaboration bar app version in approximately 4-5 weeks"

- Pavel YurevichFeb 01, 2021Former Employee
Just a quick update, so you know that we haven't forgotten about you 🙂 We are still trying to find the exact issue. It seems that it only affects some of the Desktop devices because I can reproduce the issue only on a few devices. Will keep you updated.

Andreas-N and Freddy Mulder, thanks a lot for even more information. The issue is clear to me now. I am working with folks internally who own this experience and we'll update you soon on the resolution. Hang on!
