Problems with missing files overnight in teams
- Mar 18, 2021
Hi everyone - I've confirmed that our initial mitigation has been completed after checking a specific error that many of the tenants were impacted by are now resolved. If you're continuing to run into this issue, please sign-out/sign-into the client and validate if you're still seeing it. If you are, please ping me your tenant ID, which steps to this can be found here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/fundamentals/active-directory-how-to-find-tenant#find-tenant-id-through-the-azure-portal
Thanks again for working with us, we apologize for this issue and are ensuring to learn from our mistakes that were made that caused this unfortunate incident to occur. Have a great and safe weekend everyone.
Best,
Sam Cosby, Teams Engineering PM.
We apologize for this issue you're running into. The Team is looking into this to understand the cause of this and to ensure that this issue gets resolved for you. Can folks confirm if they see this same issue from both the desktop & web client? Is this only affecting your Teams Free accounts and tenants?
Thanks,
Sam Cosby, Teams Engineering PM
- MrsdmcMar 17, 2021Copper ContributorIts the free version and I've tried desktop, mobile and web and its the same issue
- harris_abbyMar 17, 2021Copper ContributorHere is official response from Microsoft on this issue. Fingers crossed for tomorrows update, hopefully they fix the issue created on 10/3/2021 earlier then 25/3/2021.
User Impact: Users are unable to search content or view files in the Files tab in Microsoft Teams.
Current status: We're continuing to deploy additional processing infrastructure and optimizing traffic flow in the environment to improve API and affected component performance. We anticipate completion of these efforts by March 25, 2021. In parallel, we're investigating further actions that could expedite this process.
Scope of impact: This issue affects any user attempting to search content in Microsoft Teams.
Start time: Wednesday, February 10, 2021, 11:02 AM (11:02 AM UTC)
Estimated time to resolve: We anticipate completion of these efforts by March 25, 2021.
Root cause: An API facilitating Microsoft Teams search began performing below expected thresholds due to performance issues on components that facilitate the affected API, resulting in impact.
Next update by: Thursday, March 18, 2021, 9:00 PM (9:00 PM UTC) - KevinMiller6382Mar 17, 2021Brass ContributorConfirmed just now that both web and desktop have the same problem: cannot access files. Yesterday and early today I could see but not access the files. Now there are no files and the message is: "The specified list is invalid"
- Sam CosbyMar 17, 2021MicrosoftThanks Kevin - To confirm, is this for a particular Team, particular channel, particular file, or is this across all scenarios? Any specific set of steps will help us mitigate this sooner as well. If you could DM me your logs of a repro as well (Control + Alt + Shift + 1), that would be greatly helpful to mitigate this.
- KevinMiller6382Mar 17, 2021Brass ContributorHi Sam, all channels have this problem on one team but not another. I will DM you the logs.
- abonseyMar 17, 2021Brass ContributorHi Sam,
I can confirm it affects both desktop and web version of Teams Free when working with a client that only runs the Free version.
I can also confirm that when logged in as a different user on both desktop and web version of full Teams it is working fine on the same PC and Mac for a different client. Although there was a small outage on Monday night on the full version before normal service was resumed on Tuesday am - VDREWMar 18, 2021Brass ContributorYes, across the app and browser for all my staff we have tried different machines, in private browsing on phone app, accessing sharepoint files nothing works.. I appreciate we are using the free version although paying for other microsoft tools, but an outlook is needed on a fix are we talking hours/days /weeks or never? It's been frustrating that no one on the chat or phone has showed any interest in this for 2 days. I appreciate your support going forward.

hi Everyone. Are there any news?
I can confirm the problem. Using Teams free. No access to any files on teams now since 3 days. Same problem on web, desktop or mobile....- VDREWMar 18, 2021Brass ContributorNo update yet just what you see here from Sam.
if you could please send him me your logs (through DM) that would be great. Please do the following:
1. Sign out of the client.
2. Sign into the client.
3. Reproduce the issue.
4. Obtain logs immediately after you reproduce the issue (control + alt + shift + 1)
5. DM me the logs
If anyone is familiar with Fiddler/Har as well, that would be great to get a trace to understand the root of the problem deeper as well.
