Problem with editing files in group chat.

Hi, I've created a group chat (not "TEAM") with a dozen or so people.

It has the "files" section/area, so I uploaded a file today. However, there was/is a small mistake.

I tried to edit it, CANNOT, I tried to delete it - CANNOT.

Is this a known problem? I'm the one who created this chat group, & uploaded the file. But I cannot edit, or delete it, or anything.

Do we need to create a proper "team/group" to have this function?

EDIT: I've just started a chat with 1 person, and added more people on it. This chat has a "files" area but apparently cannot edit/change or delete.

  • Gordonisnz When you share a file in chat you are really sharing a link to the file stored in OneDrive, chats don't have a site to store the files. If you want to delete the file go to your Onedrive and look for the Microsoft Teams Chat Files folder, then delete the files inside.

The files view is really just a list of links that have been previously shared, there is no way to remove old items from the list.

  • Hi Gordonisnz , In most group chat platforms, the ability to edit or delete files is often determined by the platform's features and settings. Creating a "team" or a specific type of group may provide additional functionalities, including the ability to edit or delete files. However, it's important to note that the specific capabilities of file management can vary depending on the platform you are using.

If you are unable to edit or delete a file in your current group chat, it could be due to limitations within that particular platform. It's recommended to review the platform's documentation or contact their support team to confirm the available file management features and any restrictions associated with them. They will be able to provide you with the most accurate information regarding file editing and deletion in your specific group chat setup.
