Problem joining Teams Meeting as a guest

I have Teams desktop app (windows 10) installed and use it all the time.  I ran into a problem yesterday, of being invited to a Teams meeting by someone outside of my company.  When I clicked the join link, it told me I had to join via the web.  OK, that's not acceptable?  How do I fix this?
