Microsoft Teams Launches Chat with Self Feature
Microsoft Teams users can use the chat with self feature to create a special chat designed to take notes and capture other information someone might want. Itโs similar to features that exist in other messaging platforms, so itโs likely that the Teams chat with self capability will be well-accepted by users, especially those with secrets to share with themselves.

TonyRedmond Do you know where the messages saved.? I recorded a video using the Teams Chat with Video. It has a small video icon at the bottom. It's persistent and I can watch it again after couple of days. I need to share the file with someone, and cant find any share or download option. Any suggestions on how can one download the video message or file.
- I believe the video is stored in Azure Media Services. I don't think you can download the file.
- Vinay BhatiaBrass ContributorHmm...the word and text attachments are simpler. The .docx or .txt files are being saved to my One Drive for Business.

Vinay Bhatia Great question. I know you can forward within Teams but not sure where it is stored. Most likely somewhere inaccessible.

TonyRedmond Why, oh Why does it not allow you to enter a call with yourself to enable a fast and easy way to record your screen as a training element?? That would be mega useful. having a text chat with myself is a little one-sided.
- Because this is a chat with self feature, not a video yourself feature. But there's nothing to stop you sending yourself a video message https://office365itpros.com/2022/09/26/teams-video-chat/ or recording a video with Stream and posting it to the chat https://office365itpros.com/2022/09/20/recording-video-stream-sharepoint/

A coworker was able to see the Chat with self channel in the web version of teams, so is you use the group chat 48:notes in Power Automate you can post to chat with self.
My flow:
1) When an Email is Flagged trigger
2) Convert Time zone of Received time
3) Compose Link to Original Email:
- concat('<a href="https://webmail.apps.mil/owa/?ItemID=',triggerOutputs()?['body/id'],'&exvsurl=1&viewmodel=ReadMessageItem">Message</a>')4) Create Teams Post
- Post as user
- Post in Group chat
- Group Chat 48:notes
- Message
-- Subject
-- Date
-- Link to Email

Is there any Power Automate functionality?
e.g. can I send a Teams message based on a new mail trigger? (I am looking at this as a private Team "Group Chat")Paul Plummer I'm not much of a Power Automate person, but I believe that you can run Graph API requests from a trigger. If so, you should be able to post to a Teams chat.

Thank you
- DawnS1921Brass ContributorI have a loop in my Chat to self. I pin it to the top and every time I log out and back in again it is no longer pinned
- JMcDaniel_FLCopper Contributor
TonyRedmond how do I disable this feature?
- You can't. Just unpin and hide the chat.

TonyRedmond it keeps coming back. So annoying!
- Marc RousselBrass ContributorHow do we disable this useless feature?
- I don't believe that you can. Just ignore it.

Same version but some can't see this feature and some can.
- Microsoft is obviously having some issues rolling the feature out. On July 20, they said:
When this will happen:
We will begin rolling out mid June and expect to complete by late September (previously late June). - Allan_ClarkeIron Contributor
superray72 I managed to get it working by using office.com, using the Teams Web app and it allowed me to create & pin. The pinned entry then appeared in Teams proper & on my phone.
- paigemusic23Copper ContributorHi there! Though others may enjoy this feature, I really don't. How do I get rid of it in Teams? I've tried unpinning the conversation, but it keeps popping back up to the top of my chats. Even if I can't completely delete it, how do I permanently hide it? Thanks!

paigemusic23 I agree, I also am not a fan of having my name pinned to the top of my chat list. It just clutters things up and I don't use it for any kind of note taking. But, I can't for the life of me figure out how to UNPIN it. There is no option that I can see. Anyone know how to get rid of this feature or unpin yourself in chat?
- Allan_ClarkeIron ContributorWould be good if this worked. I have Teams on Win 10 & 11 machines. On both I can enter my name, I get the 'Chat with Self' page which then immediately disappears and drops back to the last chat I had open! Oddly, my phone app now has 'Chat with Self' entry. Just a pity it doesn't work where its meant to!
Anyone know if there's a fix plse? - Joern_HCopper Contributor
I saw this feature on July 8th, but today (July 9th) it's missing. I can no longer force chat with myself (tried on 2 teams clients and in webbroser). Apparently I have to wait for it to come back, or can an admin somehow force this? But nice to see I'm not the only one with this behavior ๐
