Teams is a platform that displays several services so that folks don't have to jump around to multiple areas to get work done: calendar from Outlook/Exchange, files from SharePoint, the logged in users OneDrive (under 'Files' in left navigation) as well as the user's downloads on their computers.
Being able to access something in Teams doesn't necessarily mean that others can access. If they are seeing their files in the 'Files' tab in a Team channel, then it is likely shared with everyone unless they set unique permissions.
