Microsoft Teams app not allowing participant to unmute

I was supposed to have a group job interview this morning on the Microsoft Teams app. After logging in, the video worked fine and the video and audio were both set up correctly. I, however, was unable to unmute my microphone. The unmute button would state that only the event organizer could unmute my microphone. The event organizer assured me he had enabled the ability for me to unmute myself, and I believed him because he was administering the group interview for many other participants. The main group had broken out into subgroups but I was unable to join due to the microphone issue. So I am wondering if this issue might be a bug for my particular app and OS?

I was using the latest version of the Microsoft Teams app (24295.606.3238.6194) on a MacBook Pro (Apple M1 Max) running macOS Sequoia 15.1.1.
