Looks like the "share content from camera" option has been removed in the New Microsoft Teams app?

While working at home I use a dedicated PC to aggregate audio & video for recording and video conferencing. On the old Teams for Work app I could "share content from camera" while in a meeting which would let me select a capture card to share. As opposed to hooking a windowed application or capturing a connected display.

I used to have a "fake" display (via an EDID emulator) that I would full screen OBS on. So, I could share my screen in Discord. But Discord finally added capture card support a couple weeks ago... and for a second all popular video conferencing apps had the option to share a capture card (Discord, Teams, Zoom, etc). I was happy to finally be rid of this fake display. It causes other issues / confusion since it's technically a display in windows, but fairly inaccessible as it can't be physically seen.

Unfortunately, it looks like as soon as Discord added this option, Microsoft teams removed it?

  • ninbura There are some specific features from the previous client that are still not in the new client yet, but it's more they haven't got round to them yet rather than they are being dropped. I fully expect this to return in the near future.

Old Teams is still available, and will be for some time.

StevenC365I don't know. Seems like they may view the virtual whiteboard as a suitable replacement. I don't think they're accounting for people who were using it to share their screen via capture card, or OBS's virtual capture card.

At this point I'm getting daily pushes to switch to new teams, with no option to decline. I'm able to move back, but only after being shoved into the new application. I've begrudgingly re-quipped my computer with an EDID emulator. This allows me full screen my OBS preview on a fake Display, which I can then share as application or screen capture.  Much less intuitive to just piping my OBS output to Teams as a "capture card" for sharing. Not even an option for everyone if they're out of display heads.

I'll fondly remember the week that every video conferencing app finally supported share from capture card. Until Microsoft removed themselves from the equation 🥲

        Thank you for your reply.

I haven't check it out recently, but it seems like they haven't added it back yet. Crossing fingers, they do, because that would be a *massive loss in flexibility*.

In my case, my monitor is ultrawide and I can't share my desktop because it looks all distorted on the other end. I ended up using the OBS Virtual Camera to define a section on my desktop. I wish they add a way to share only a part of my desktop. That would perfectly well in my case.

I'm curious about that EDID emulator you also use. Care to share more details? That could be an option for other users and even myself in the near future when my organization decides to forcefully push this latest Teams version.

        Thanks again!

Yes. That's what it looks like. The "Content from Camera" got removed. I think this is a very bad decision. I have no idea what the reasoning behind this could've been.

I have an ultrawide monitor, and Teams doesn't play well when you want to share your screen, because instead sharing a part of your screen, it squeezes the entire screen and other users can't see it properly on the other end.

The result, now I'm unable to share my screen during my meetings.

When products are "upgraded", you expect them to go beyond what it could do previously, not a few steps behind. What a shame.

Yeah, this was a very bad surprise upon updating Teams today. Any workarounds?
