Is audio teleconferencing compatible with channel instant meet now meetings?
LinusCansby thank you for that info. - so just to check if I understand:
- broadly speaking dial in can be made to work with channel meetings, but there may be a few tricky cases
- if we were using a channel meeting for a morning standup on a normal morning we would need to ensure that people without licenses avoided pressing 'meet now' if they were first to turn up - instead they should wait until a licensed person hits 'meet now 'and then they can hit 'join' - that way dial in would be available for anyone that needs it.
- also on a morning that a license holder doesn't turn up no dial in would be available - even if the channel was managed by a license holder (unlike a recurring outlook meeting created by a license holder that would not need them to turn up)
allanbarklie If you have a daily/weekly morning standup meeting I would suggest that you schedule that meeting and invite the channel, that way a user with a license will the organiser and then you will have the dial-in information. Also it will be easier for users to find the meeting if they have it in their calendar.
If you use the meet now, the user that starts the meeting need the license. But again schedule it instead.

LinusCansby again thank you for your help
Inviting a channel to a scheduled meeting sounds like a reasonable compromise - certainly for our common uses cases.
I'm having difficulty working out how I would do that.
Unfortunately we we do not have calendar functionality within Teams (there is no calendar tab) - maybe because we have an on premises exchange server - I am not in IT so I don't know what issues there are there. The only way I can find to schedule a meeting into the exchange calendar is through the desktop outlook client which has a Teams plugin. Is this option of inviting a channel still available to us?

Ask your IT department to fix so that scheduling works, you can still have your mailbox on the Exchange server.- allanbarklieApr 21, 2020Copper Contributor
LinusCansby thanks again for your help. I will share this conversation internally and see what can be done.
