Icon in taskbar keeps showing unread messages
Hi @Janne2420 ,
If you're experiencing an issue with the Teams icon in your Windows 11 taskbar displaying an incorrect number of unread messages, you can try the following troubleshooting steps to address the problem:
1. Restart Teams: Close the Teams application completely and restart it. Right-click on the Teams icon in the taskbar and choose "Quit" or "Close." Then, launch Teams again and see if the issue persists.
2. Check for updates: Make sure that you have the latest version of Teams installed on your computer. Open the Microsoft Store app, click on the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, and select "Downloads and updates." Check if there are any pending updates for Teams and install them if available.
3. Sign out and sign back in: Sometimes signing out and signing back into the Teams application can resolve synchronization issues. Click on your profile picture or initials in Teams and choose "Sign out." After signing out, sign back in with your credentials and check if the incorrect unread message count persists.
4. Clear Teams cache: Clearing the Teams cache can help resolve various issues. Right-click on the Teams icon in the taskbar, and if you see multiple instances of Teams listed, right-click on the one causing the issue and choose "Quit." Then, press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box, type "%appdata%\Microsoft\Teams," and press Enter. In the folder that opens, select all files and folders (Ctrl + A), right-click, and choose "Delete." Confirm the action and restart Teams.
5. Reset Teams notifications: Resetting the Teams notifications can sometimes resolve issues related to unread message counts. Open Teams, click on your profile picture or initials, and choose "Settings." In the Settings menu, select "Notifications" from the left sidebar. Scroll down and click on the "Reset" button under the "Reset notifications" section. Confirm the action and see if it resolves the issue.
6. Reinstall Teams: If none of the above steps work, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Teams application. Right-click on the Teams icon in the taskbar, choose "Quit" or "Close," then go to the Start menu, find Teams, right-click on it, and choose "Uninstall." After uninstalling, restart your computer and download the latest version of Teams from the official Microsoft website and install it again.

Janne2420 The 2 versions are Home and Business, So either you had the Home version and got the Business or vice versa, But both versions have very small change's to them.
- Janne2420Jun 15, 2023Copper ContributorSo the second version I got kicked me out and wouldn't let me back in. Which is unfortunate since it didn't have a problem with the number of messeges.
I tried 1-4 above and it hasn't worked. I cannot find a reset button for number 5 and I can't find the version of teams I'm having trouble with in the store...- oleh_bezkorovainyiJun 17, 2023Copper Contributor
