I have multiple users that are getting only zero characters on Teams chat

Try a reboot, this worked for us. May sure Teams is updated, as well. I heard Microsoft was having an issue. The other option is to uninstall and reinstall Teams if a reboot doesn't work. Only thing I found so far. Otherwise, I would call Microsoft customer support.
