Hi, I know that this is quite an old thread. Microsoft has now made improvements to the image search in Teams, you can click the search box and select "Images" to filter for images. Admin Droid has published a good article on that topic: https://blog.admindroid.com/image-search-in-microsoft-teams/.
However, A true replacement for a media/image tab for chats and channels is still not available without 3rd party apps.
