How to Assign the Co-Organizer Role to Microsoft Teams Meetings
- Jan 12, 2022
Rae_Jay Hello, these are the details of the co-org role.
Co-organizers can do the following:
- Access and change meeting options
- Bypass the lobby
- Admit people from the lobby during a meeting
- Lock the meeting
- Present content
- Change another participant’s meeting role
- End the meeting for all
- Create & manage breakout rooms
To make co-organizers breakout room managers, you must first assign them the breakout room manager role.
Co-organizers cannot do the following:
Create & manage breakout rooms(updated, see above)- View & download attendance reports
- Manage the meeting recording
- Edit the meeting invitation
- Remove or change the Organizer role
They won't be able to:
Create and manage breakout rooms.
View and download attendance reports.
Edit the meeting invitation.

Hi ChristianJBergstrom - Can we get another update? It seems like co-organizers have the ability to view and download attendance reports now and I'm wondering about the rest? Do you know where to get this info without testing?
Thanks for your answer!
- jackbrown1986Feb 27, 2023Copper ContributorThis doesn't seem to work for me. I assign someone (a presenter) as a breakout room manager. I then assign them as a co-organiser, and they seem to disappear from their assigned role as a breakout room manager. Or is that how it is supposed to work, and I should trust that they have both permissions?
Secondly, if I am unwell or my laptop fails etc., no one can properly cover my role as organiser. I need a backup person who can cover all functions, including recording the meeting. As it is, if my laptop dies or my internet cuts out, the workshop cannot run properly.- Rae_JayFeb 27, 2023Iron Contributor
jackbrown1986 It looks like the co-organizer role finally includes management of breakout rooms. I wonder if the reason that your breakout room managers disappear when you make them co-organizers is due to this functionality.
I was unable to assign the breakout room presenter role to co-organizers, as I think the new function for co-organisers incorporates this now.
This post gives more recent info on the co-organizer role.
- NicDFRSSep 13, 2022Brass ContributorThis is a huge disappointment. So the problem still exists if someone leaves that set up a reoccurring meeting, even if you appoint a co-organiser it is not possible for them to edit the meeting details such as move it forward half an hour etc. I think the name of the feature is misguiding.
