Extremely unstable Teams client on Mac + solution

I will try not to write this post in frustration or affect, but the Teams client on Mac is literally giving me a meltdown, just like my last meltdown some eight years ago, when I had my last Skype for Business moment (after just having come over Windows Millenium, and having said a final hasta la vista to IE6).

There must be a series of serious issues in the Teams client on Mac:

  • Its freezing / loading indefinitely
  • Its giving totally nonsense error messages
  • I will not go into the details of trying to sign in, being enforced into the Microsoft Live 2FA account loophole
  • In general, the Microsoft Teams for Mac client is totally useless unless you have an IT-department which has optimized your Mac for these things

Going into specific debugging details would be nonsense, as there is clearly a gigantic flaw in the client that I am sure someone at Microsoft using a Mac knows about. Cause someone there use a Mac, right?

Briefly my Mac is Apple M1 Max, I am on the latest version of OSX. I run the latest version of Teams. I have enough memory to launch a space shuttle to Jupiter.

And the issue was exactly the same on my former Macbook Pro, with older versions of OSX.

PS: I am a very senior tech person (even ran a BBS in the early 90s, waiting for the internet to arrive) and have been using all DOS versions, all Windows versions, etc etc. so I know this is not a local issue.

So, Microsoft, please please fix Teams on Mac.

And the temporary solution? Run Teams in the browser. You're welcome.

  • Hey thereroyandre - I'm sorry to hear about your issue you're having on your Mac. It's unfortunate that you're having such a poor experience on your M1 device. With you being on M1, you should have the Apple Silicon version of Teams which should be speedy on your device, but it sounds like that's definitely not the case. Can you provide me your version number? Here's more on that; Find Version of Teams

Additionally - can you validate in particular what your specific problems are? Is this mostly tied to meetings? Outside of meetings? Chat lists? Anything in particular that you can provide on your repro steps for your problem is something that we can definitely look into further for you.

    Thanks,

I have had a ticket open for a week with no Microsoft input, the "famous" thread outlining all the same issues has been locked. It seems that Mac is and will never be a properly supported device, despite being on their support matrix.

StaceeFrane I wish I could. The issue is that the client simply loads forever, or freeze, I dunno. At least I have to forcefully close the Teams client, and instead simply use the web version, which actually works.

I have talked with several others, which are facing the same issue.

And no, there is absolutely nothing wrong with my Mac, which works perfect in anything from DaVinci Resolve to FL Studio to the more basic apps.
