Hi amarnathreddy05,
To enable cross-organization chat in Microsoft Teams, you need to:
- Enable external access in your Teams tenant.
- Add the other organization's domain to your external access whitelist.
- Have the other organization enable external access in their Teams tenant.
- Add the other organization's domain to their external access whitelist.
Once you have completed these steps, users in your organization will be able to chat with users in the other organization.
To collaborate with external participants in a shared channel, you need to configure B2B direct connect for each organization that you want to collaborate with.
To do this, you need to:
- Add the other organization to Microsoft Entra ID.
- Configure inbound settings for the other organization to allow users from that organization to be invited to your shared channels.
- Configure outbound settings for the other organization to allow your users to be invited to that organization's shared channels.
Once you have completed these steps, team owners in your organization will be able to invite people from other organizations to participate in shared channels.
Here is a more detailed explanation of each step:
Enable external access in your Teams tenant
- Go to the Microsoft Teams admin center.
- Click Organization-wide settings > External access.
- Under External access, select Allow users to communicate with users outside of [your organization's domain].
- Under Domains, add the other organization's domain to the whitelist.
- Click Save.
Add the other organization's domain to your external access whitelist
- Go to the Microsoft Teams admin center.
- Click Organization-wide settings > External access.
- Under Domains, click Add.
- Enter the other organization's domain and click Add.
- Click Save.
Have the other organization enable external access in their Teams tenant
The other organization needs to follow the same steps as above to enable external access in their Teams tenant.
Add the other organization's domain to their external access whitelist
The other organization needs to add your organization's domain to their external access whitelist.
Configure B2B direct connect for each organization that you want to collaborate with
