Block Teams meeting chat notifications for meetings you don't attend
- May 03, 2019AFAIK, no! But you can connect to meeting and then go to the meeting chat in the chat tab , right click and inactivate notifications for it
Or is this meeting in a channel? If so did you check the Channel notifications (... menu next to channel the meeting is in) and you need to make sure you aren't getting notifications for all messages and replies, cause if so you will get these no matter what and will have to go to the actual top message of the meeting in the channel and click the ... menu by and it turn off notifications for that thread every time as the meeting chat will follow the channel rules and not the built in chat setting discussed in previous posts.
ChrisWebbTech I think there's an answer buried somewhere in what you wrote...
You wrote: "either the meeting is recurring and you need to leave the chat, or maybe that is the problem and recurring keeps inviting you back keeping the settings, or just mute that chat."
Huh? In my case it is definitely happening with recurring meetings. The question is: how do I stop that? I'm invited to many recurring meetings which I sometimes attend but often do not. I don't want chat alerts popping up for a meeting I have not joined.
You wrote: "Or is this meeting in a channel?"
What does that even mean? It's a Teams meeting someone else created and invited me to. It shows up on my MS Outlook calendar, and there's a link I click to attend it. Even if I don't click the link and join the meeting, I get the chats. I don't want the chats.

biteme1160Thank you! I never would have guessed. I'm old school and looked for a menu saying "settings" or even a gear icon.

adam deltinger You mean this setting? It seems to have no effect.
Perhaps what you are saying is that this setting does not work for recurring meetings?
So if it is a recurring meeting, where do I find the setting to stop chat alerts, and do I have to do this every time for every meeting or can I set it once?
Thanks
- Aug 28, 2020The answers is in the thread mate! In the settings - notifications - scroll down to meetings - there’s an option about mute before joining meetings.
I also wrote how to mute a meeting chat , in this case an re-occurring meeting for example
