Unable to upload .msg files via forms

Hello All, I want my users to upload .msg files through forms. They are unable to upload .msg files which are saved as messages from outlook. They are able to upload all other files like word, excel etc. Any help on this please ?

    Hi,

I am following up on this thread regarding the inability to upload .msg files (saved Outlook messages) via Microsoft Forms. This issue currently affects several users and limits our ability to collect critical data in its native messaging format.

    Need

The goal is to enable the upload of .msg files without restrictions through forms, just like other standard file types (PDF, Word, etc.). This would ensure that users can submit relevant attachments directly from their email clients.

    Benefits

    1. Increased productivity: Users would no longer need to convert their files to other formats before submission, reducing unnecessary steps.

    2. Data accuracy: Allowing .msg files preserves information in its native format, including metadata.

    3. Improved user experience: This feature would simplify processes for end users and reduce frustrations caused by unsupported formats.

Could you please confirm if a solution is planned or if we should consider alternatives? Any updates would be greatly appreciated.

As a professional user, it would make a big difference for collecting and organizing certain email threads all in one place. Adding this option would give us more flexibility, especially for those of us who rely on Microsoft for streamlining workflows. It’d really be a nice boost to the user experience on the professional side.
Thanks for considering this for future updates!
  • NaveenKumar_M - this is a good question and a very silly restriction. We use forms that ask the user for a document demonstrating approval from a manager and this is almost exclusively via email. This means users have to go through extra steps to comply with the restrictive file formats that are irrelevant for this use case. Very disappointing there has been no change on this over the years.

Is there any possibility of this being added in the future? Seems a bit of a limitation.

I am also interested on this feature. We would like the users to upload email messages on an MS Form.

This looks like to be a product limitation, allowed file types are Word, Excel, PPT, PDF, Image, Video and Audio.

Ricardo Viana Thank You for the response. I too was under the same impression but Microsoft says that it is possible. Please go through the link.
