Text boxes do not expand or wrap while typing in them

Newbie! 

I'm creating a form to collect detailed responses in text boxes. I tested the form, and while typing in the boxes, they do not expand or wrap. It is not possible to see what has been typed without putting the cursor in the box and using the arrow keys.  What am I doing wrong?  I'd actually prefer to see boxes like the one I am typing in now, with wrapping and basic text enhancement features.
