Error because copilot cannot use sharepoint references wipes out whole prompt
- Oct 04, 2024
Hi droopydog500!
You're not alone in this. And it's not the expected behavior. I recommend you submit the feedback to Microsoft because they do watch for it.
My gut says this type of gap in user experience features will be filled over time. I can say from my experience that Copilot at copilot.microsoft.com behaves slightly more like what you want compared to other areas of M365. This variance in behavior prompted me to start writing my larger prompts in OneNote as a backup if I ever lose them in the scenario you've described. It's saved me so many times now.
So, perhaps while we wait for Copilot to mature even more, you can beat this glitch by writing your prompt in a text editor first and then pasting into Copilot. And don't forget to send them feedback!
droopydog500 it's not a copilot issue; Forms has never been able to read or use any external data.

Thanks, I was more focused on it wiping out the prompt than it not referring to files. It should have given the error and taken me back to the prompt editor with the prompt in it. I should not have had to recreate the prompt from scratch for try 2.
