Can the name field be changed to say "FULL NAME" or broken into two fields for FIRST and LAST?

I have SO many customers just putting their first name in the Name field and its getting very difficult to identify them.

Has anyone found a work around for this? I was going to just add a custom field for first and last name - but they they are two name fields and that is not a great user experience.
