M365 disconnects my Dropbox account every single day
I don't have the standalone "Microsoft Copilot" app on any of my devices.
I do have the "Microsoft 365 Copilot" app installed, but that's just the confusingly renamed Microsoft 365 Office app. Is that the one you are referring to?
Yes. That is the app causing all the problems. When you have that installed, Dropbox goes through it and gets all muddled up. When you delete it, Dropbox goes directly to to the 4-year-old old version of Word and keeps the links.

Thanks for the suggestion, BethOfAus2025. Unfortunately, that did not do the trick for me. I uninstalled 365 leaving only the Word app on my device. Rebooted my iPad. Sadly all that did was get me a different error with the same result: Sorry, something went wrong and [your file].docx can't open.

In Word, go to Settings, Storage Accounts, and link to Dropbox. You have to do it once but it then holds that link and it no longer drops out.

Thanks again, BethOfAus2025. I've been testing this for about a week now, and for the most part your suggestion to delete the 365 CoPilot app seems to do the trick.
I do still get de-sync issues when I open the document on my iPhone and then go back to the iPad. As long as I stay on one iOS device it seems to stay connected. Kind of defeats the purpose of having cloud-stored documents but it's definitely less annoying than it was before.
I remain utterly disappointed in Microsoft at their complete refusal to fix, or even acknowledge, this issue. I've been reporting this issue for a year--sending them at least a dozen, if not more, reports through the "Tell Us What Can Be Better" feature within the app itself; I've posted it both here and on answers.microsoft.com, and gotten literally zero acknowledgement from anybody related to the company.
