How to limit the CoPilot scope in the tenant resources.
Good morning,
I looked around for similar topics without success, so please redirect me to any active thread if one exists.
We are in the process of implementing M365 CoPilot for a limited number of users as part of an adoption phase.
As for the users, we will progressively extend CoPilot's visibility (see segregation) of the user tenant resources once validated by our team.To be clear, for example, CoPilot works across all of Graph, but initially, we would exclude SharePoint and focus only on Exchange. How can we achieve this? Is it possible?
Thanks, Fabrizio
- JaredMatfessIron ContributorThere's really no good way of doing this with Copilot for Microsoft 365, even Copilot for Sales is focused on Teams Meetings and then integration with Outlook/Exchange.
The question I would rather pose is, why are you attempting to limit Copilot's scope to just Exchange? Are you concerned with oversharing & sensitive data?- FabrizioDegniBrass ContributorDear Jared,
thanks for your reply. Yes, I was referring exactly to that.- JaredMatfessIron Contributor
FabrizioDegni so what I might suggest instead of trying to limit what Copilot can return from a scope perspective, you may be able to remediate some of your oversharing issues. While that might sound a bit complicated or perhaps unmanageable, many third parties have products in this space to help streamline it. If you take a look at what we have at AvePoint - we have our Control Suite of tools that would allow you to scan Sites/Teams for sensitive information, help to identify potential exposure levels, and then build a plan to remediate. This will take some input/assistance by the business since they are the domain experts. Taking Copilot out of the picture for a moment - oversharing is a risk already, it's just being illuminated by Copilot. Let me know if you want to connect with any of our folks in EMEA for a demo of our Control Suite.
Good luck!

- JaredMatfessIron ContributorRestricted search is ok, but it has bigger implications than just Copilot unfortunately. Also impacts Search.
