How to Fix Microsoft Copilot Not Working on Windows: Easy Solutions That Actually Help
Microsoft Copilot can be a genuinely useful Windows companion. Whether you use it to brainstorm ideas, summarize information, create images, find answers, or get help with Windows settings, it can save a surprising amount of time. But when Copilot suddenly refuses to open, gets stuck loading, crashes, shows a blank screen, or simply stops responding, the experience can be frustrating.

Been there; Copilot on Windows can be flaky for a few different reasons depending on which "Copilot" you're actually running (the free Windows/Edge version vs. the Microsoft 365 one). A few things worth trying before a full reinstall:
- Sign out and back into your Microsoft account in Windows settings; session/token issues are the most common cause of a stuck loading screen.
- Check for pending Windows updates. Copilot ships as part of the OS on newer builds, and a lagging update can break it.
- Reset the app: Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Copilot > Advanced options > Reset.
- Still blank or crashing? Try the web version (copilot.microsoft.com) to rule out a local app issue vs. a service outage.
One thing that trips a lot of people up: Microsoft has attached the "Copilot" name to several different products (free consumer, Microsoft 365, app-specific versions), and mixing them up is behind a lot of the "it's not working" confusion, especially around what features you actually have access to.
