Password protection adds another security layer that mobile and web-based Office apps often can’t handle well — especially when accessed through a third-party interface like Copilot. Even though OneDrive can open the file directly (since it hands it off to the Excel app), Copilot doesn’t have the same permission handshake to decrypt or edit a protected file.
