Copilot Cowork mode has disappeared from the account

Hi everyone,

I recently subscribed to the top-tier consumer plan (Microsoft 365 Family with Copilot / highest personal tier) to test out Microsoft Copilot. Noticeably, I am the primary subscription owner on the account.

The issue:

Initially, I had access to the Copilot Cowork mode/section, and it worked fine. However, shortly after, it suddenly disappeared completely from my interface, and I haven't been able to get it back since.

What I've already tried:

I reached out to Microsoft Support via chat, and an agent even connected to my PC remotely to troubleshoot the issue, but unfortunately, they couldn't figure out why it vanished or how to restore it.

Has anyone else experienced Copilot Cowork disappearing like this on a personal/Family subscription? Is this a known server-side rollout bug, a licensing sync issue, or is there a specific workaround/setting to bring it back?

Any advice or shared experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • The plan name matters here: being the Family subscription owner does not, by itself, establish eligibility for Cowork. Microsoft’s current Copilot app update guidance says Cowork for personal accounts is a Premium or Pro feature in Preview; Personal and Family users lose access to running Cowork tasks after the transition.

First, check the exact subscription name under your Microsoft account’s Services & subscriptions. If it is Family, the documented eligibility change can explain access disappearing; a local reinstall or settings change would not add that entitlement. Previous Tasks conversations and content should remain viewable, although running them again requires an eligible plan.

If the subscription actually says Premium or Pro, test Cowork in the browser using that same personal account, then return to your existing support case with the plan name and screenshots. Your post alone cannot establish a rollout bug or licence-sync fault.
