Copilot Agent Monitoring: A Practical Guide to Visibility, Performance, and Governance
- Oct 27, 2026
John, I would add a distinct 'effect unresolved' state to the monitoring model. If a target write succeeds but its response is lost, the connector may report a timeout while the business change has already happened. That case needs reconciliation against durable target evidence before another write.
In my PALO pilot with Copilot Studio and Azure, I checked the catalogue independently of the agent trace. A denied proposal and recovery of an expired review request both left the target unchanged. Approved execution and replay are still being qualified, so I keep those outcomes separate from completed business actions.
For a write-capable agent, I would correlate the action ID, policy version, approval expiry, execution attempt and target result. Report policy denials separately from infrastructure failures; retain expired approvals and unresolved effects as their own outcomes. Alongside latency and cost, expose the proportion of authorised execution attempts with an independently verified result and the age of unresolved effects. This makes the monitoring actionable: reconcile the uncertain outcome, assign an owner and prevent a blind retry. PALO pilot discussion.
