Settings for first setup of iPhone
Hey everyone,
in our company we are using Intune for our iOS-MDM. Some settings have been implemented via trial-and-error and now an error occurred.
After resetting a device to facory settings I expected, instead of the https://support.apple.com/library/content/dam/edam/applecare/images/en_US/iOS/ios-16-iphone-13-pro-set-up-manually-steps.png , to manually configure how and which data to recover. The goal was to use an https://support.apple.com/library/content/dam/edam/applecare/images/en_US/iOS/ios-16-iphone-13-pro-setup-move-data-from-android-steps.png.
However, this step was skipped and the device went straight on to pull initial settings etc. Furthermore, after the installation a new backup was created and uploaded to the respective iCloud for that Apple ID User. The old backup therefore was overwritten and we had a useless backup of a fresh device.
We do not know whichs settings in Intune cause this behaviour.
Anyone any ideas?
Best

- Francois_PapillonCopper ContributorRestoring IOS device from icloud/intunes will restore the mdm setup....
If the device was not in mdm the restore on the same device will set it back to not beeing in mdm the process will change if you restore to a different device.
So if you want to restore to the same device but going mdm you will need a second device.
device 1 (no mdm) device 2 (mdm) backup device 1 restore to device 2. backup device 2, join device 1 to mdm and restore backup from device 2 to device 1...
you can refer to ms doc on this

Francois_Papillon thanks for your reply, especially the link to the Microsoft source.
There is a whole point about "Restoring a backup to an iOS/iPadOS device", further sayingWhen restoring to the same device on which the backup was performed, after the backup is successfully restored, setup assistant doesn't resume. You're left on the device's home screen. The result is that you don't go through any 'remote management' and subsequent enrollment steps.
This is exactly what wasn't possible, but what I'm looking for.
- Francois_PapillonCopper ContributorSorry if i did not understand fully your question but this is why i was talking about having a second device not to restore on the same device...
