Request: Manage Apple Vision Pro with Intune MDM

Hi,

At our company, some teams are working with Apple Vision Pro because they are hoping to find new technical solutions for the business. We would also like to include Apple Vision Pro in the management of our other mobile devices via Intune MDM.

Since Apple has also offered an MDM interface for Apple Vision Pro with the visionOS 1.1 update, the glasses could in principle also be managed by an MDM, but the MDM must also support the glasses.

Hence my question: When will this be possible via Intune MDM? As a company, we recently switched to Intune MDM with over 110,000 devices (both mobile devices and fat clients) and we are confident that Microsoft will also support new technical products (such as the Apple Vision Pro).

    UPDATE:
Thanks to Microsoft that the MS Authenticator app is now also compatible with Apple Vision Pro and visionOS. Now you can use Intune MAM with the Microsoft 365 apps! However, there are still a few exceptions. I have not yet managed to get the Outlook and OneDrive app to work on the Vision Pro. The other apps (such as Teams, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote), on the other hand, work very well.
I will try to provide the exact error message for Outlook & OneDrive later. I'm not sure if this error message has something to do with the apps, or if it's a setting in the App Protection Policies for the M365 that prevents use on the Vision Pro!

Firstly, thank you for your reply.

It is of course a pity that Intune MDM does not yet support Apple Vision Pro. I hope this will change soon.

In the meantime, do you or anyone else know when Microsoft will at least provide the MS Authenticator app for visionOS (for the Apple Vision Pro) so that businesses will at least be able to use the Microsoft 365 apps in a secure environment on the Vision Pro?

  • Geekzilla @Instruct users to enroll their Apple Vision Pro devices with Intune MDM. This can typically be done by navigating to the device settings, selecting "Accounts & Passwords" or "Profiles & Device Management," and then adding a new account or profile for Intune enrollment.

I fear (according to my research) that neither of these two ways with Intune MDM will currently be possible with the Apple Vision Pro, because the MS Authenticator app is still not available for visionOS. I am also skeptical that the MS Company App exists for visionOS and that would be the prerequisite for me to be able to include the Apple Vision Pro in the MDM management in Intune MDM. If I am wrong, it would be nice if someone could post specific instructions on how to proceed.

And it's August with still no solution for corporate customers. My IT tells me that Microsoft needs to make Intune available on Vision Pro for it to be managed with JAMF. Not sure why they have blocked this as the default is that iPad apps are available on Vision pro.

It would be great if Microsoft released the Authenticator app for visionOS, then you could use the typical M365 apps such as Teams, Outlook, OneDrive etc. on the AVP.

As far as the MDM management of the AVP is concerned, I don't understand the connection between Intune and Jamf. Jamf can also manage the AVP AFAIK without Intune, but only in a rudimentary way. Proper management can only happen when Apple expands the MDM functions on the AVP. But then the question is whether Microsoft has the motivation to include the AVP in Intune MDM management. Perhaps MS doesn't even want to do this because it doesn't want to offer the competition any advantages when its own solution with Hololens 1/2 has almost been abandoned.
