Dynamic Group

I want to create a dynamic group based on users from A-H and pull their device names. I am  not able to do this. I can either do users or devices. but based on usernames starting from A-H I cannot pull the device names.

Is there a way to do it? I do not want to add it manually; it is frustrating otherwise I need to pull all the users' devices through PowerShell and then add it. As, it was working properly for User Groups with Windows Update Rings and now it is not working and Microsoft wants me to change it to Device Group.

I would prefer device group but my manager wants me to go by alphabet order. I have to listen to him.

As far as I know this is by design and you cannot mix user and device group types. May I know what will the group be used for?

This is for Windows Updates Rings. Unfortunately, we have naming conventions for devices and our initial plan was using alphabetical order to apply updates and we do not want to apply updates to specific groups or specific depts as we do not want one dept to get the updates and something happens then it becomes an issue. So, I am looking at some kind of way to use Dynamic Groups instead of me manually adding devices which is not what I want to do.

Thanks for the response. However, I feel that your approach may cause more issues than do you any good. If I were you, I will identity cohorts based on phases - ICT testing, friendly pilot, friendly pilot 2 (across other BUs), production 1, 2, 3 so on and so forth. Groups until production phases can be dynamic, but since the number of devices for these groups will be low, create static groups to have more control. For production groups, you can have dynamic based on naming convention. I don’t know how your current naming convention is but one way could be abc1% or abc%.
