Dynamic Group
As far as I know this is by design and you cannot mix user and device group types. May I know what will the group be used for?

This is for Windows Updates Rings. Unfortunately, we have naming conventions for devices and our initial plan was using alphabetical order to apply updates and we do not want to apply updates to specific groups or specific depts as we do not want one dept to get the updates and something happens then it becomes an issue. So, I am looking at some kind of way to use Dynamic Groups instead of me manually adding devices which is not what I want to do.

Thanks for the response. However, I feel that your approach may cause more issues than do you any good. If I were you, I will identity cohorts based on phases - ICT testing, friendly pilot, friendly pilot 2 (across other BUs), production 1, 2, 3 so on and so forth. Groups until production phases can be dynamic, but since the number of devices for these groups will be low, create static groups to have more control. For production groups, you can have dynamic based on naming convention. I don’t know how your current naming convention is but one way could be abc1% or abc%.

Our Naming conventions are based on site. So, if I try to apply to a specific site then if something goes wrong then it will be an issue. So, I am not sure how to go about i really.
For ex
LTMI(Michigan) for example
LTCA (California)
LTTX
So, if I use these as the Dynamic Groups then it will be like one site will be affected if some patch goes wrong. So, this approach is kind of a problem also, but if I hit on Dept wise then it will be an issue. That is why I chose to do Alphabet orders, but it was working fine, until December 50% of our patches did not get applied and not sure why. I opened a ticket with MS and they prefer that I apply it to devices. Which I used to do through devices in another company. But if I have to applying to devices and dept randomly then the best approach was only through user groups. But, MS says No to it.
