Does Intune create a new user profile?

Hello,

I am new to Intune and figuring out a way to enroll our corporate devices (i.e. Windows and Mac devices) to Intune. Currently, we are using a third-party device management tool and planning to move to Intune soon. My question is about the user profiles. Our users already have a profile on their laptops and all their data, files is in those profiles. If we enroll the devices to Intune, is it going to create a new user profile for them? If that's the case, it adds another challenge to move the user data from old profile to new one. We have around 200+ users so this will require a lot of work from admin side.

Any advice is appreciated.

Interesting. I've been reading about different ways of enrolling devices in Intune and one of them was automatic enrollment and it talks about how it creates a new profile for you once you domain join the device. I don't have the article link with me anymore unfortunately.
Does new profile creation depend on the enrollment method then? I'm confused.

Enrolling in Intune doesn’t require domain join. Paths involve hybrid in which a domain profile is already created and you just use the SAM account to login as normal or do an Entra ID join which will use M365 identity for authentication. In case of Entra ID, if use Autopilot method for enrolment then it is like setting up a new device. In case of existing and manual enrolment through WPJ, you will most probably be coming from Workgroup and this case you will have to switch user to the enrolling user’s profile. Since you are referring to existing devices and domain and stuff, I am taking that you were referring to Entra Hybrid join and this doesn’t create a new user profile as stated earlier.
