Win 10-Win 11 clean install via Intune

I know you can do a win10 to win11 upgrade in Intune but I was trying to work out a way to push a fresh install rather than i place upgrade.

Is this possible?

Been messing around.  Found that you can run a script on an existing endpoint and generate a machine hash.  Then import it into autopilot and then you can do an autopilot reset from Intune zero touch.

Still haven't figured out how to do one from Win10 to Win11, not sure it's possible from what I'm reading.  Not out of the box anyway.

  • How about bysing Autopilot which lets you provision devices with a clean install during the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE):

    1.     Reimage the device manually or via PXE/USB with a clean Windows 11 ISO.
    2.     Ensure the device is registered with Autopilot (via hardware hash).
    3.     Create an Autopilot deployment profile in Intune:
    •     Choose Self-Deploying Mode or User-Driven Mode.
    •     Assign the profile to the device group.
    4.     During OOBE, the device will enroll into Intune and apply your policies/apps.

Explored and rejected the idea.  Reasons being:

      1. Required registering the device hardware hash
      2. Requires someone to touch the device to initiate the build

What id ideally want is to start with the Win10 machine already in Intune and then initiate an autopilot rebuild from there.  I even see an "Autopilot reset" on a device in Win10 I manually enrolled.
