weird symbols when trying to save document

Hi looking for some help. Sometimes when I go to save as a document, the window opens, and all the words are strange symbols. See pic below. However, if I place the cursor over a folder, it changes back to standard letters. When I remove it, it converts back to symbols. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.
