Universal Group Owner or Active groups with no owners

Hello All,

I apologize if this is a silly question but I am trying to help my organization research Best Practices for keeping public Groups active without an individual user as an owner. The use case for us is that we use Groups and teams to coordinate engagements with our clients and those engagements regularly cycle from active to inactive. Groups and teams are a great way to keep institutional knowledge of our clients but during the inactive periods, we would like to free up our users from seeing those groups in their list of joined groups. My initial thought was to have a shared user account that could be used by admins to keep all of the groups open that were not active. Is there a better way to keep groups active without an owner?

Thank you in advance!

  • Well technically you require at least one object to be listed as Owner of the group. If you don't want this to be an user/admin account, you can certainly use some dummy "shared" account for that purpose. But this kinda goes against the intended scenarios for Groups, they're supposed to be self-managed.
