The new Outlook search in the title bar is disconnected from the content it searches
Hi MaryB
The search bar doesn't show in my version of Outlook 365, but it does in Word, Excel etc
To hid it, I use tick the 'collapse the Microsoft Search bar by default' to stop it from showing.

The search function is more problematic than useful in it's current state, so it is more useful to hide it than use it. If I could show/hide it, like keyboard shortcut or something, or move it it would be more useful. I would rather permanently hide it than use it right now because it is so distracting and cumbersome. debbiejj
- pbutinMay 29, 2020Copper ContributorI don't have the options in this illustration. There is no option to collapse the Microsoft search box by default. I agree with everyone that moving the search box to the title bar was a huge mistake. It should be right above the emails like it used to be.

HidMovthis is a change in recent Insider versions of Outlook, so it may not have reached you yet. I can't find an option to move it back to the top of the inbox - and searching is so important in Outlook that I wouldn't want to hide the feature!

Here's another really awful side effect of having the search bar in the title bar... When you type into it, the search suggestions and actions drop-down menu COVERS the ribbon and the "Search" tab which contains search refinement options!!! This makes the "Search" tab options completely unusable. If you click away in order to get the search suggestions to disappear, then the Search tab also disappears from the ribbon.
- mspittelerJan 08, 2023Copper ContributorThis is most annoying! To mitigate, Use File->Options->Search to permanently add the Search tab to the Ribbon.
