Thanks for such a quick reply that's very helpful! Just to clarify, so even with just one E1 license, the number of external users is unlimited?
External Sharing is possible with users of other tenants?
Yes, you can share to any external users of other tenants.

- and also to users who have a 'Microsoft account' - e.g. a windows live, Hotmail, outlook.com account, etc.
In other words, you can share with people who do not themselves use Office 365.
