Publisher replacement ideas
Below are the alternatives available:
- Affinity Publisher:
- A popular choice for its simplicity and affordability.
- Offers a one-time purchase (no subscription) and is compatible with macOS, Windows, and iPad.
- Scribus:
- A free, open-source desktop publishing tool.
- Great for creating professional layouts, though it might have a slight learning curve.
- Canva:
- Web-based and very intuitive.
- Ideal for creating visually appealing designs, though it may lack advanced desktop publishing features.
- Affinity Publisher:
Since I first posted, I’ve been using the Pro version of Canva. I decided It was time for me to quit whining and save my work.
The positives: You can copy and paste from Publisher and it pretty much keeps your formatting, so that’s great. It’s easy to add text boxes and place them anywhere, so that’s also great. I’m finding it easy to add graphics of all kinds, so all in all, I don’t hate Canva.
The negatives: I find it very difficult to outline a text box. I hate having to google how to do things, and in my opinion, that alone means it’s not user friendly. The tool bar should have a lot more functionality. Also, when you copy and paste a text box from Publisher, you can’t add anything in the box without deleting all contents, and then adding contents back inside. However, if the contents are stationary, you’re good to go.
Thank you all for this free therapy session. Microsoft still sucks and I’ll forever be angry about this 💩💩💩 decision.

My problem has been that I need to eventually hand on this job to someone less experienced with all applications than me. (A club of aging members). In essence I have simplified my Newsletter - which is deflating but at least I can just hand on a Word Document.
Oh, and the irony is that Google's AI tool is sooooooo much more helpful than MS Help... Ha!
I think I will consider Canva for future, non-club, projects. Maybe I will look at it in conjunction with Affinity as Google suggested :)
