Page count on print layout screen locks

The page counter at the lower-left corner of a page I'm typing formerly change the count to the page I was on as I scrolled to the various pages in a file. Now it seems to be locked at the page of the most recent startup and stays there; i.e., 2/9. The word count next to it keeps an accurate tally.
