Office 365 for IT Pros, Fifth Edition

Folks,

We've wrapped up our work on the 4th edition of Office 365 for IT Pros and are now working on a new edition. Files for the 51st and last update to the 4th edition have been uploaded to Practical365.com and Amazon, so we encourage our subscribers to download those files so that you have the latest content.

More information about the fifth (2019) edition is at https://thoughtsofanidlemind.com/2018/06/25/office-365-for-it-pros-5th-edition/.

  • Office 365 for IT Pros April 2019 Update Available

Update #13 for the Office 365 for IT Pros (2019 edition) eBook is now available for subscribers to download from Gumroad (EPUB and PDF) or Amazon (Kindle). This update features changes in 14 of the 24 chapters, so it’s substantial. Just like Office 365, the book keeps on changing to keep track with new developments, best practice, and information released by Microsoft.

Fifteenth Update Released for Office 365 for IT Pros (2019 Edition)

The 15th update for the Office 365 for IT Pros eBook is now available for download by subscribers. This is the last update before we switch focus to the 2020 edition, due for release on July 1, 2019. We didn’t make many changes in this update because we’re busy writing for the 2020 edition, but the changes we did make are important and we’d like people to download and use the updated files.

Hi Tony - love the book (4th edition) and planning on purchasing the 5th as well.  Couple questions:

    • Would you suggest purchasing through your site instead to get future discounts, etc?
    • I read the book on my kindle and I have found that it can be hard to navigate through the table of contents because the chapters and sub-chapters are all at the same level (no way to expand/collapse, indent/outdent, etc.).  I was just wondering if there was a format of the book (maybe if I purchased through your site instead of Amazon) that made it easier to navigate?  I have gotten used to navigating via search, but thought I would ask if there was another option before purchasing.

Thank you and great work to you and your team!

The 4th edition is now very outdated (as you surely have noticed). We're just preparing to issue the 7th update for the 5th edition - probably tomorrow. This will include a lot of updates from Ignite.

As we explain in the book FAQ, https://office365foritpros.com/faq/, the only discounts we can offer is through the web site. We can't offer discounts for Amazon Kindle.

It is possible to load PDFs onto a Kindle, or convert an EPUB file to MOBI and use it on Kindle. Maybe those would be better.

  • The writing team has released the 2019 edition of the Office 365 for IT Pros eBook. You can read the announcement text here https://thoughtsofanidlemind.com/2018/07/02/office365itpros5/

This is a big release for us. Some of the original writing team stepped down after four versions and we brought some great new writers on board to increase coverage of topics like SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and Flow. At the same time, we broadened and deepened coverage of Teams, Office 365 Groups, Exchange Online, and lots more. The book is now divided into two - a main book that we update frequently and a companion volume that holds content that's valuable but doesn't change that often. We hope that you like the new format.

We appreciate all the support received from many people at Microsoft who helped us understand different aspects of the technology and how things work in the cloud. We also appreciate the foreword written by Rajesh Jha, head of Office 365 and a member of the Microsoft Senior Leadership Team. Without support like this, we'd never get something like Office 365 for IT Pros out the door.

Head to our book site to get a $10 discount (link expires in a week). Subscribers who bought the fourth edition from Practical365.com should wait for the email containing your upgrade offer.

Amazon Kindle files are now available at: Main book and Companion volume (companion volume). We have to publish two separate books for Kindle because Amazon doesn't do multi-volume books.

Thanks to all who supported our writing efforts to date. We are absolutely dedicated to continuing to develop the most practical and in-depth book covering Office 365 deployment and administration. I hope you agree that we've done a reasonable job.
