Microsoft Word: "Edit Links to Files": create relative link

I have a template folder containg two files that are linked together:

  • Report template.docx (containing a set of graphs)
  • Report data.xlsx (placeholder file for all the graph data)

When I copy this folder, the newly created Word document will keep its links to the original Excel file. Is there any way I can prevent this by creating a relative link to "Report data.xlsx" in the current folder?

  • Found the answer after som further research. For graphs copied from Excel to Word (Links to Files), relative linking can be achieved by VBA macro.
