How do you disable the creation of Office 365 Distribution Groups from End Users
Actually, the users were trying to create their own personal distribution groups by going into "New Items" in the outlook client and selecting "Group". At closer look this created an Office 365 Group which shows up in the Global Driectory. They realized that that was not what they wanted to do so some have contacted me to remove them since they cannot remove the Office 365 group.
I want to stop this accidental creation of Office 365 groups.
I now have notice alot of Office 365 groups which I assume many of them were accidentally created as I wrote above. Now I don't know which are valid Office 365 groups and which ones were accidentally created. Ugh!

LOL. this is a very common issue with every admin. Any ways it is not too late now.
the best practice is to admins keep control of creating 365 groups.
Based on business justifications create a group on behalf of users and grant owner access to that specific group.

You can control Groups creation via the Azure AD settings as detailed here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Control-who-can-create-Office-365-Groups-4c46c8cb-17d0-44b5-9776-005fced8e618?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US
It's a really stupid syntax, and perhaps it's time to remind cfiessinger that an UI option is long overdue.
