  1. Can you provide an overview of your business, Lets Collaborate?

We build business systems and intranets using standard Office 365 / SharePoint functionality, then teach people how to use and manage them.  We have been in business for over eight years and won or been nominated for 19 awards in that time.  We’ve also launched BizPoint – Bootcamps for Business Owners to help start-ups and small businesses get operationally efficient.  We show people how to get operationally strong and demonstrate how Office 365 can enable this.

  1. Why is it important for you to share your knowledge of technology with others?

Because technology moves at breakneck speed and people can’t keep up.  Everyone learns in different ways, and not everyone hears the same message, so it’s important to share the knowledge you have.  More people can be empowered in different ways when everyone shares their knowledge.  We also then create diversity which adds colour to our lives.

  1. What’s been the most fulfilling part of your career?

By far – seeing people’s eyes light up when they see how cool SharePoint can be.  The first time they see a custom list with grouping and filtering in action makes me smile every time.  It’s such a simple thing, yet such a crowd pleaser.  People get so excited and just want to learn and do more.  We make them excited about working again.  I love it.

  1. What advice do you have for someone new to online communities? How can everyone get the most out of communities they join?

Don’t be scared to answer or ask questions in them.  That’s what they are there for.  The only way an online community can thrive, is if people engage in them.  To get the most out of your communities, be selective about what you join.  There are simply too many of them and it becomes information overload.  Rather focus 100% on one decent one, than give scant attention to hundreds of random ones.  You will be endlessly distracted and get nothing done.

  1. What does it mean to you to be a Microsoft MVP?

Industry recognition of the extremely hard work I put into my career to become a globally recognized specialist in my field.  I will never forget the first one I was awarded, it was a rush of note! I feel very lucky to have won 8 of these consecutively and I like contributing to the global community.  I would do it anyway, award or no award.  Being MVP allows me to inspire the people around me to be the best that they can be.
