The issue encountered with the Inter font in PowerPoint for Mac during PDF export is related to how Office for Mac manages font embedding and glyph support. Microsoft has acknowledged that non-standard fonts may not embed reliably in exported PDFs, which can result in missing characters such as the German sharp S (ß), the en dash (–), and the em dash (—). To ensure accurate rendering, Microsoft’s official guidance recommends embedding custom fonts within the presentation or utilizing Office cloud fonts, which are fully supported across export formats.
