Excel Sort Address List

I need to sort an address list that contains the street number and street name in a single cell.  How is the best way to do this? I am using Win 10 Excel 2016.

  • What are you trying to sort by?
The best way is to have the data in separate columns (ie. unit/apartment number, street number, street name, suburb, state, post/zip code). Then you can sort by whatever column you like.
At the top of Excel (underneath the application title and file name) you'll see an area that says "Tell me what you want to do" and depending on what you enter will either do it for you or provide you with a link to help material.

Thank you Loryan. I had a neighborhood address list in Word and transferred it to Excel. I wanted to set it up by street name but the address number and street name came into the same cell.  I finally went into Data  -> Text to Column and put then into 2 columns.  I thought there might be an easier way. They are now in two adjacent columns.  Not the best  but workable.
