Error code OxC0000142

This has probably been covered before but I was using my laptop earlier, everything was fine.  I logged out.  Logged in again about 2 hours later and cannot open anything.  I keep getting a box with 

Error code OxC0000142.  Can anyone help me in laymans language please.

I really need to do some work but cannot access anything at the present time.
