    The issue has been resolved. Followed the instructions from https://www.robinhobo.com/how-to-configure-automatic-contact-syncing-from-microsoft-outlook-to-the-native-contacts-app-including-contact-fields-filtering-on-ios-and-android-byod-devices-with-microsoft-endpoint-manager/

    Forgot that I had posted this question, which is why I am replying now... apologies for this.

    I have set my own reply as answer in case someone else has the same problem.
