Desktop Click (lower right taskbar) pointing to wrong desktop
Please try to fix by the following:
- Check Folder Redirection
Windows may have redirected your Desktop to the wrong OneDrive folder. Here's how to fix that:
- Right-click on your Desktop folder in File Explorer (under This PC).
- Select Properties → go to the Location tab.
- If it says C:\Users\user\OneDrive – MSFT\Desktop, click Restore Default or manually change it to:
- C:\Users\user\OneDrive\Desktop
- Click Apply → Yes to move files if prompted.
- Unlink the Wrong OneDrive Account
If the MSFT account is still active in OneDrive, it may override your personal settings.
- Open OneDrive Settings (click the cloud icon in the taskbar).
- Go to the Account tab.
- If you see both accounts listed, click Unlink this PC for the MSFT account.
- Restart your computer.
- Set the Correct OneDrive as Default
After unlinking the wrong account:
- Sign in to your personal OneDrive only.
- Make sure it's syncing to C:\Users\user\OneDrive.
- Confirm that your Desktop folder is inside this directory.
- Re-enable “Show Desktop”
Once the correct Desktop folder is active:
- Go to Settings → Personalization → Taskbar
- Ensure “Select the far corner of the taskbar to show the desktop” is enabled.
Now when you click the far corner, it should show the correct desktop.

I tried what you said, and I think it made things worse. Here's where I am now:
Current Situation (after multiple fix attempts and lots of changing paths/locations):
- There is no actual desktop folder (blue folder w little dots on left)
- There is a regular folder I call Desktop. I can add/edit/delete files on it when I'm in the folder path
- All those changes show on the actual desktop - but nothing on the actual desktop can be add/edit/delete. Any attempt at working on the actual desktop results in:
0x800401E5: No object for moniker
An unexpected error is keeping you from creating the file
The blue desktop official folder is gone. Not in recycle, not in system backup. No where.
all I want to do is make the regular folder "Desktop" be my actual Desktop Folder (working as the actual desktop, blue icon with three dots).
