leoatap When you mean retention tag, do you mean a mailbox retention tag or do you mean an Office 365 retention tag?
Exchange retention tags can be stamped on items in the Sent Items folder. You can stop users assigning personal tags to the items in the folder by not including personal tags in the policy assigned to mailboxes.
