Customer needs to access email while visiting Cuba

Hello there, I wish to inquire if there will be a problem when travelling to Cuba - in accessing email from the O365 service. Is this true? I have a customer who is getting mixed messages, told by some they cannot get email, and from other companies they deal with is that if you are in Cuba you can still get emails on the Office 365 service.

To clarify:

- The customer is not VPNing in to the network here in Canada or any other location they have in the world.

- Executives travelling to Cuba will access their emails through a hotel/public wifi or through the local cell service.

- Their Office 365 tenant is hosted in Canada

Based on the above can you confirm if the users will still get email? The logical part of me says yes, but then again, I have never travelled to Cuba. Thanks for your help!

  • I'm not aware of these issues, but have not been in Cuba since 2009....the problems I had when I was there is just poor Internet connectivity....something that has been improved, but still an issue

Yeah, all I hear about Cuba is that the public internet accessed via wi-fi is slow and expensive. Perhaps a local phone with a data plan might be a solution given that the mobile Office 365 apps are optimized for phone networks where drops are not uncommon. They will probably perform better than Outlook on a public wi-fi because Outlook is a bit of a network pig when it comes to demanding bandwidth. If the users insist on using a PC or Mac, get them to use the browser apps.
